Redevelopment
Sue Sandahl says, "While commercial redevelopment efforts have sometimes been controversial, they have paid off."

New residents moving into the community have chosen Richfield as their home because they like the positive changes they see in the revitalized commercial areas.

Commercial improvements have also given homeowners the confidence to improve their own homes. 2,225 building permits for work over $10,000 - each have been issued since 1990. This means that residents have invested over $22,500,000 of their own money in the community, and it shows!

Transportation
"Richfield is surrounded and divided by freeways and borders the seventh busiest airport in the country. It is critical to our well-being that we are full participants in any proposed changes," says Sandahl.

Sue serves as the city's representative to the I-35W Solutions Alliance the I-494 Corridor Commission, she has also served on the Richfield Transportation Commission.

She has served on the airport N.O.I.S.E (National Organization to Insure a Sound-Controlled Environment). She was also appointed to the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee of the National League of Cities and testified before Congress regarding airport issues.

Home Maintenance / Richfield Neighborhood Preservation
Richfield residents are proud of their quiet and attractive neighborhoods. Sometimes residents do not maintain their homes. Accumulated trash, overgrown shrubs, high weeds and brush in one yard can impact the whole block.

To help solve this problem, I support the new city inspection program which encourages neighborhood clean-up. Community Service Officers will be going door to door in a neighborhood and advising residents of exterior maintenance issues that are in violation of city ordinances. Neighborhoods will receive advance notice so that residents can start clean-up before the community service officers arrive.

The Richfield Remodeling Fair and Richfield Beautiful (a home and garden tour) have also helped to encourage residents to remodel and improve their homes and gardens.
